Project Goals
CPG was hired to update the City of Virginia Beach's 30-year-old historic preservation master plan.
Project Design
CPG staff summarized existing preservation challenges and opportunities as well as risks to historic and cultural resources.
Given CPG’s well-rooted knowledge of the Hampton Roads area, staff aimed to provide comprehensive recommendations for programming, resource stewardship, and risk management for the city’s historic and cultural resources as well as markers for measuring success.
Challenges & Accomplishments
The final deliverable had to be accessible to all stakeholders and align with other preservation documents like the Cultural & Historic Districts Design Guidelines.
The document provides a ten-year plan for survey and documentation efforts. The plan also provided examples for engaging the community in preservation and increasing awareness of the city’s historic assets, which was a key goal for the project partners.
